Play Hard was a merge of artists from different ages, backgrounds, and cultures talking about how humor is part of their studio practice. To "play hard" is to enjoy, to wrestle with and create art with a sense of humor. Humor has traveled through time and through art; From Manet, to Picasso, to Japanese prints, it has consistently come up. In this show, we celebrate humor, we celebrate the idea of playing in the studio. The different media that come out in this show are used in honest and exciting ways. There's an exciting tight-rope walk between figuration and abstraction in this body of painting, sculpture, and film.
